X2 [Cross-To] welcomes the world to Bang Saray Beach

ATTAYA, THAILAND — Kissed by the sun and lapped by sea, Bang Saray Beach is one of Asia’s most exciting emerging destinations. Located on Thailand’s fast-developing Eastern Seaboard, between the popular resort town of Pattaya and the port of Sattahip, this beautiful coastal region has a rich history and an exciting future.

After the fall of the Siamese Kingdom of Ayutthaya in 1767, six ships and their passengers arrived in Bang Saray to start a new life. They called this idyllic stretch of coconut palm-fringed beach “Sam-Lae”. The area quickly began to attract Asian merchants and traders, but the menfolk of Sam-Lae were worried about losing their famously beautiful women to foreigners, so they set out to scare away unwanted ships. For decades, Sam-Lae’s pirates – led by two brothers, Jao Kao Tong and Jao Lung Mai – would intimidate any vessel that came too close to their shores!

Today, as a traditional fishing community, Bang Saray exudes a quiet charm that feels a long way from its pirate past. But the descendants of the Jao brothers still reside in Bang Saray to this day.

Showcasing this beautiful and romantic destination, X2 Pattaya Oceanphere will soon become Bang Saray’s first all-pool villa resort. Perfectly positioned just 450 metres from the shoreline, this luxurious boutique resort will offer 59 one-bedroom pool villas and spacious two-bedroom duplex pool villas, all designed in a unique geometric style that resembles rice terraces gently cascading towards the seafront.

Ranging from 137 to 257 square metres in size, each of these contemporary villas comes fully equipped with tropical living spaces, bathrooms, a kitchen, floor-to-ceiling windows, an outdoor sala, terrace and private pool. The resort’s spectacular rooftop pool is the perfect place to enjoy a sunset cocktail, while the second level Ocean Bistro specialises in modern Thai and fusion cuisine.

With its unspoiled stretches of sand, Bang Saray is an idyllic destination for beach lovers. But there is more to this area than just sun, sea and sand; this notorious former pirate port provides a rich insight into the history and culture of Thailand’s coastal communities. Nowadays, seafront restaurants serve up the “catch of the day” at local prices, and Bang Saray Walking Street Market sells authentic Thai products rather than the usual tourist titbits.

Away from the beach, golfers have a choice of world-class courses to test their skills, and traditional tourist activities such as the floating market, botanical gardens and Big Buddha Mountain are now complemented by modern family attractions such as Cartoon Network Amazone, Ramayana Water Park and Silverlake Vineyard. Nearby Sattahip also houses a sea turtle conservation centre, and the clear blue waters of the Gulf of Thailand provide exciting opportunities for scuba divers, including shipwrecks that teem with tropical marine life.

Bang Saray is also easily accessible. This secluded stretch of sand and can be reached in just 2.5 hours by car or taxi from Bangkok and Suvarnabhumi Airport, making it ideal for busy urbanites seeking a relaxing weekend break. In addition, U-Tapao International Airport is just 20 minutes’ drive away, offering direct connections to and from cities in Thailand, China, Malaysia and further afield.

“We can’t wait to introduce guests to Bang Saray. This is tropical Thailand as you always dreamt it; authentic, exotic and secluded. It exudes laid-back friendliness and local flavour, but has a rich and romantic heritage that will captivate visitors. X2 Pattaya Oceanphere, with its collection of pool villas and upscale amenities, will bring a refined atmosphere of design-led luxury and style to this enchanting destination,” commented Steve Lockhart, Cluster General Manager of X2 Pattaya Oceanphere and X2 Vibe Pattaya Seaphere.

Operated by X2 [Cross-To] Resorts, the renowned Southeast Asia boutique hospitality brand, X2 Pattaya Oceanphere is already open for reservations and will start welcoming guests in April 2019.
