The Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, along with the Thai-Sino Association of Science and Technology (TSAST), collaborated with CCPIT-Shanghai and CAS-ICCB to host the opening ceremony of the '2023 Green Technology Expo’. The expo aims to promote the adoption and dissemination of technology in various sectors, including energy, transportation, agriculture, and environmental preservation, both domestically and internationally. Along with supporting UN Policy and global communities to mitigate climate change issues, support sustainable development goals (SDGs), and transition towards a Low Carbon Society while also positions itself as a central hub for Electric Vehicle (EV) production in the region. Over 100 participants took part in the exhibition held from November 9 to 12 2023, at Hall 98, Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC). Throughout the 4 days, the event aimed to attract minimum of 4,000 attendees.
Dr. Prasert Sinsukprasert, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy stated, "It is widely acknowledged and recognized that our world is facing a climate crisis that affects all life on this planet. The primary cause is the increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which escalated after the industrial revolution in the 18th-19th centuries. A period marked by significant scientific and technological advancements such as the discovery of steam engines, oil, mechanical innovation, electricity generation for production and distribution systems globally, These advancements improve our quality of life which we have to thank to those researchers and innovators. However, the growth in the economy comes with the accumulation of greenhouse gases, impacting everyone, as mentioned earlier. Therefore, to solve the issue, we must tackle both the causes and effects. The only way is to leverage the knowledge and capabilities of scientists and innovation to invent and create technologies for a new industrial revolution while every step should be taken to avoid adverse environmental impacts.
Currently, the government of Thailand emphasizes international collaboration to reduce the impact of climate change. The goal is to achieve carbon neutrality and achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions within 2050 to 2065, as announced during the COP26 meeting to promote SDG policy and BCG Economy across all sectors. The example being the energy sector which promote clean energy use
for electricity production and electric vehicles, following the 30/30 policy. Along with prioritizing financial and tax measure which play a crucial role in the success of these policies. The 2023 Green Technology Expo will contributes to the industrial revolution by showcasing environmental friendly technologies distributed globally , benefitting both business growth and people’s quality of life.” Dr. Prasert concluded.
Professor Dr. Pichai Sonjaeng Secretary-General of the Thai-Sino Association of Science and Technology, stated “The association was established through collaboration among entrepreneurs,
Business, professionals, academics, and both public and private sectors to collectively promote and support innovation and technology that has an impact on stimulating the economy and business development, addressing global challenge. Additionally, promoting the use and dissemination of technology aligns with the government policy and global community dedication to solve climate change issue. The "2023 Green Technology Expo got the good cooperation of various organizations, especially the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, CCPIT Shanghai, CAS-ICCB, PTT Public Company Limited, Huawei Technologies (Thailand), Siam Commercial Foundation, SCG Foundation, and various government agencies with over 100 private companies in showcasing their technology. Apart from product and technology showcase, seminar related to investment promotion policies, finance, and the country's readiness in infrastructure to instill confidence in Green technology investment in Thailand will also be organized. Additionally, the event will present innovations and technologies to promote business partnerships and expansion that promote environmental sustainability and preservation” said Dr. Pichai.
Mr. Ma Yi, Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shanghai (CCPIT-Shanghai), stated, “In the past few years, the Thai government has adopted the BCG Model as a comprehensive economic development plan, emphasizing not only economic development but also societal development and environmental preservation in a balanced manner to achieve both stability and sustainability. This aligns with the Chinese government's support for achieving carbon neutrality and reducing net greenhouse gas emissions, along with supporting the development of green economy. Simultaneously implement with Thailand's strategic plans, such as the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), align with China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)" , with both parties agreeing to jointly create a China-Thailand community in the future. Strengthening the idea that 'China and Thailand are one family,' fostering collaboration in economics, trade, investment, science, technological innovation, deepening the relationship between two countries” said Mr. Ma.
Dr. Zhang Xiao Xiao Counselor, Economic and Commercial Office of the Embassy of People's Republic of China, stated, "The 2023 Green Technology Expo is more than just an exhibition of innovations and technologies but also a gathering of individuals who recognize the importance of building a sustainable world by creating and developing innovative solutions, reducing carbon emissions, conserving resources, and protecting natural ecosystems for the next generation. It is believed that this expo will serve as a crucial catalyst for positive change and inspire all sectors to engage in environmentally friendly operations or projects that are more mindful for the environment. The hope is that it will contribute significantly to raising the quality of life, disseminating technology, and expanding businesses related to solving environmental issue while also protecting it. The aspiration is to forward a more sustainable and beautiful world for future generations, coupled with business growth." said Dr. Zhang.
For the opening ceremony of the 2023 Green Technology Expo, Dr. Zhang Xiao Xiao, Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, had the honor of bearing witness to the collaboration between China and Thailand. Within the event, there will be exhibitions of technologies in energy, agriculture, construction, and the environment. Leading electric vehicle (EV) technologies provider from different companies such as BYD, GWM, MG, WULING, and the first-ever introduction in the country of CHANGAN, one of the global leaders in EV, will be showcased. Additionally, the latest charging system and battery technologies will be presented, along with demonstrations of hydrogen usage in energy productions that are set to completely revolutionize global energy use. This includes electricity generation through mobility and the production of green products using hydrogen by both ammonia and methanol. Throughout the four-day event, attendees will have the opportunity to interact with experts from various fields who will share insights on stage, providing knowledge, exchanging real-world experiences, and offering consultations on investments and technologies to facilitate networking and business development.
